Our Mission

Friends of Iowa Midwives is
a statewide grassroots organization working to:

Promote access to midwifery and out-of-hospital birth in Iowa

Protect the rights of Iowa women to choose their place of birth & birth attendant

Provide education about childbirth options

Create supportive community for birthing women and families

Our current legislative campaign aims to license Certified Professional Midwives in Iowa.


We are part of the
National Birth Policy Coalition
and the
Big Push for Midwives.

Licensing Midwives in Iowa
with Ida Darragh, CPM

Ida Darragh is a Certified Professional Midwife and director of testing for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). She is a nationally recognized expert on CPM certification and licensure, and a part of the Big Push for Midwives. She has assisted many states in advocating for CPM licensure.
If you support access to quality maternity care for home birth families, now is the time to contact your legislators!

Ask them to support SF 2070 and HF 2297 and to support licensing midwives in Iowa.
